Clothes…and Other Important Things in New York City

So here I am in New York. I have turned up, expecting gale force winds and driving snow, with my giant Max Mara overcoat (which is much too thick for the blustery spring weather that’s been in residence since my arrival, despite the thick snow just days before) that screams Upper East Side more loudly than I thought possible.

There is a downside to this look: you look completely uncool in SoHo, even if you are wearing ripped jeans underneath (I’m not by the way). Read More

Properly Good Dim Sum in the Highly Unlikely Venue of…Turf City

I used to rather disparagingly refer to Turf City in my Sean Connery voice as “Turf Sh*tty” – it was a bit run down pre-makeover – but it now seems to be a place I find myself in about one a week.

Butter Dishes…Finding One that Works in Singapore

My favourite breakfast – it comes a close second to a bowl of fish ball mee from Ghim Moh market – is a slice of seeded brown bread, slightly burnt around the edges (usually by mistake but I’ve got used to it and now quite like it), spread with a nice generous layer of butter and some homemade marmalade (not homemade by me, but by someone with a patient and domestic disposition).
