This Year’s ‘Lantern’ Festival at Jurong Chinese Garden

By Friday, 13 September 2013 Day Trips, Festivals

I’m re-running a post from last year’s throughly successful visit to the Chinese Garden in Jurong. Yup it’s lantern festival time again.

This year though, the guys in charge of the decor at have gone decidedly off-piste: instead of all the pretty lanterns you might be forgiven for expecting to see, they have blown the budget on enormous moving, roaring…um…dinosaur models.  A huge hit with the children but I have to say, visually, I much preferred it last year.  And besides, what do dinosaurs have to do with the mid-Autumn festival? Bomba Paella Bar

By Tuesday, 10 September 2013 Food & Drink, Restaurant Reviews

I know, I know…two posts on carb-eating within one week. What’s gone wrong?  Sometimes, life is just too short. Dinner last Friday was courtesy of Bomba, the hip, low-key Spanish restaurant just off Mohammed Sultan. One of the owners – Miss Y – is a friend who kindly invited me to come and try it out.

Bomba is actually part of the No.38 Martin Road development (it’s next door to Baker & Cook) which is a part of town I love.  You can get anywhere from here in a matter of minutes; Orchard is a stone’s throw away yet you feel miles from its hustle and bustle. Martin Road also happens to be just around the corner from the Gallery Hotel with its incredible resident magician – perfect for after-dinner cocktails. Read More

I’m always so thrilled when any friend of mine has a book out. On the basis that I can’t really imagine being able to write more than the word count required for a newspaper article, (yes, stay tuned, my first proper piece for the The Telegraph is out later this month) I think binding your thoughts, hopes and dream together into something totaling 250+ pages is a serious achievement. The Writing’s on the Wall

By Friday, 30 August 2013 House & Home, More Dash than Cash

What it does have going for it though are large, shiny floor-to-ceiling wall tiles.  In white thank goodness.

And these tiles in my un-chic and cluttered kitchen have become something that I love: they are hands down the best place for lists, messages and reminders. Read More

I love a spot of eBay shopping. There one problem with living in Singapore is that ebay.com.sg is hardly used by anyone and any eBaying I do is on the UK site (which I usually start doing in earnest a month or two before my darling Ma comes to stay so she can kindly lug it all over for me).

Anyway – for those who share a passion for online shopping and never say no to tip-top quality secondhand bags, clothes and even shoes – think hardly worn Gucci heels at 70% off – ChicStash has arrived in SG.
