This little gem of a jewellery find is strictly word of mouth and is run by Angel Carew-Jones who is super talented and under prices her fabulous, fun jewellery. Majoring in earrings there are also bracelets and necklaces, but it’s her earrings that I love best. At my last count, I own seven pairs.
She was a leading light in Retail Therapy’s Wheelock store for a while but now just holds a big sale at her house once a year or so. And the good news is she has one coming up this Friday, 20th September.
I popped over last week for a quick inspection of her new designs, most of which have been created specifically for the upcoming trunk show titled ‘The Party Collection’. Here’s the workbench in her studio (below) which looks encouragingly busy; there will be more than 140 pieces on sale.
My edit of what I love appears below, although there have been many more pieces made since I visited. Most are one-off designs – after all, there is nothing worse than seeing someone else in ‘your’ earrings/necklace/bracelet (delete as appropriate).
Sorry, I’ve snaffled these babies (Fan My Flames, above, $109 in oxidised silver) which will be perfect day or night and look great with short hair.
Angel trades under the name ‘Two Pigs’, so-called after her twin boys who were born in the year of the pig. She has certainly saved my (sartorial) bacon a few times, like when she whipped me up these blood red beauties with only a few days notice:
…to wear to a friend’s wedding (I desperately needed something dramatic to go with my red, short but very plain Catherine Walker dress but couldn’t find anything in the shops that I liked). So yes, she will also make bespoke creations upon request.
Names of pieces are playful – just like her designs and prices vary according to the types of material used.
Here’s the Narnia Snow Queen ($109), made from silver and crystal, which I still might buy when I’m back there this Friday:
Minky Dink (below) would be perfect at Christmas time and is made with pearls, silver, crystals and, yup, mink. Let’s face it, it’s probably as close as you’ll get to wearing fur in the tropics ($129).
There were lots of variants on this necklace/bracelet (pictured above) which can, handily, be worn as either and comes on black as well as tan coloured leather and in masses of different lengths.
I also loved Candy Cained (above, which actually looks fabulous on, especially with your hair tied up; they’re very, very light to wear too) priced at $68.
Indian Spice is also really tempting. I love the colour orange at the moment; it’s so unapologetically, well, orange…which seems to look good on everyone, whether fair or dark or somewhere in between. $85
This raw cut amethyst necklace ($209 – name as yet undecided) is also a beautiful statement piece and I really like the unexpected chunky chain at the back. Perfect when worn with shorts and a pale grey tank top.
Think classic components assembled with a, sometimes witty, twist: pearl, jade, glass, crystal and more.
Prices start from $45 and go up to around $200+
Sale Timings: The Two Pigs sale is happening this Friday, 20th September 2013 from 10am-6pm. It’s very informal and being held in Angel’s apartment: 93 Grange Road, #14-05 Grange Residences aka The Grange.
I’ll be there to support my talented friend from 11.30am, for about an hour or so. Come along and say hi, I love meeting Changmoh readers!
looking forward to her trunk show on 19th
