An Instant in Instagram

By Changmoh • Monday, 29 April 2013 • Food & Drink, Parties and Premieres, Restaurant Reviews

Looking back, last week – seen here through the comforting golden glow that only instagram can deliver – does seem to have involved rather a lot of eating.

The most trouser-stretching moment was probably Violet Oon’s press lunch.  She’s just received a rave review in the New York Times which has tied in nicely with some new additions to her menu; my favourite was this:

Buah keluak pasta.  Deliciously lavish, the buah keluak has an almost truffle-like intensity and is perfect if you’re lazy like me and hate scooping it out of the nut.  Here all the hard work’s been done for you.

JY Polo

There was more eating and drinking at the Diplomats Cup at the Polo Club yesterday.

Meeting the players pre-match elicited squeals of delight from my five year old – to be fair Nico (below) was quite easy on the eye…I almost joined in:

I hunted down the most beautiful pot plant that I could find as a housewarming present to celebrate Mrs B being ensconced in what I honestly think must be one of THE most fabulous apartments I’ve been to.   A 360 degree city view comes complete with three roof terraces and a walk in closet you could get lost in *turns green with envy* (my clothes are hanging on a rail I bought from Ghim Moh market that’s on its last legs).

A coffee with my editor…I am now writing for two magazine out here and will have two regular columns. Whoop, whoop! As most thoughts seem to leave my head the moment I have them, I am rarely without my trusty embroidered notebook (from Paperchase in the UK).  My Carolina Herrera tassel purse – a gift given at the launch of their MBS store last month – makes for a great pencil case/card holder.  It’s two-tone so when you flip it frog green becomes cafe au lait:

There was a shade more scoffing at one of my favourite places for dinner: Basilico in the Regent Hotel. Every evening there is a fabulous Italian antipasti buffet of burrata, risotto, parma ham, sashimi, beautifully rare Angus beef with lashings of truffle cream, perfectly cooked asparagus spears and…if you can imagine it…more…and this is just for starters. Say no to main (a la carte) and pud (another buffet) and all you will spend is $45. You can go up as many times as you want/can (I ate my body weight in parma ham) to eat ingredients that would cost more than twice that price to buy out here (also great for low-carb losers like me – just delete the risotto and off you go).

After all that eating I did manage to squeeze in a spot of exercise. If I didn’t have a trainer, I wouldn’t just do less, I’d do none. I hate it. But my two workouts last week were so severe that I succeeded in feeling both sore and sorry (wrong attitude I know).

I met up with my lovely friend LT and her brand new baby girl Milla for a dim sum fix at my weekly staple, Crystal Jade Golden Palace in Paragon.

And finally…whilst eating (again) I spotted this:

Food corkage?!  Seriously? A new word – and concept – which still makes me smile when I read it.

The Chinese Angmoh
Why the strange name? Changmoh is an amalgamation of the words Chinese & 'Angmoh' (local speak for Caucasian should you be reading this in a country other than SG) // I'm an English girl living in Singapore and love the local way of life so much that I actually think I’m half Chinese. Maybe even three-quarters // Freelancer writer, author and editor ... you read it here first.
