*This post is now not really as relevant as it was when I wrote it a year ago, for the simple reason that this Chinese New Year most things were open, including Cold Storage Jelita which didn’t even close.*
I was so thrilled when this amazingly detailed listing pinged in to my inbox, I thought I’d share it. Courtesy of the lovely Singapore food blogger 365days2play who has kindly researched it all, click here to see CNY opening times for pretty much everywhere in SG, from ION’s Food Opera, (I love this place with its ghost chairs & deer heads…not to mention great fish ball mee) which IS open, to Paragon, which is not.
There’s also another place that serves food a very impressive 365 days of the year; Chinese owned and run it seems extraordinary that New Year makes no difference to this.
A fail safe lunch option it dishes up delicious, juicy duck and rice from a wonderfully old fashioned stall still standing proudly on the corner of Seng Poh Road as Tiong Bahru is revamped and remodelled around it.
I was introduced to this place by Desmond the durian seller who has a stall in TB wet market selling what I think is the best durian in town.
They don’t speak much English here but it doesn’t matter – you can make yourself understood enough to buy what you want to eat (pointing and smiling seems to work quite well).
I love their sweet char siu (roast pork) and crispy siu yok (crispy pork belly) too which you can tuck in to there on breezy (at this time of year anyway) semi-outdoor tables to the back and side of the shop.
A delicious Sunday lunch with or without people to share it with…and open today!
