Before ‘The Dry Cleaning Accident’, I never really thought too hard about which dry cleaner I dropped my things off with. The nearer and more convenient, the better. ‘The Accident’ involved a cropped, black boucle DKNY jacket which was returned to me as flat as a pancake, topped off with a horrid sheen only possible from monumental over pressing.
I am now in love with For the Love of Laundry, probably best described as the dry cleaning equivalent of Ecover or Method (two brands I’m really rather a fan of).
Love of Laundry don’t use any harsh chemicals and are the first guys here in Sing to use a toxin-free technology that’s better for the environment AND better for your clothes.
Without getting in to too many boring details, the stuff that most other dry cleaners use is a petroleum-based solvent (called Perc) which has in fact been banned in California – it’s a toxic air pollutant and carcinogen apparently. Yikes. Not only bad for clothes but almost certainly, over time, bad for you.
These guys at For The Love use a natural, liquid silicone that’s good for even the most delicate of fabrics and, not that you’d want to, gentle enough to actually rub on your skin.
It all sounds pretty good….but do they actually get your stuff clean?
I’ve used them four times now for about ten items and the answer is a resounding yes. They also seem to do something more than dry clean: they breathe life in to things. Which has got to be even better. No colour-faded, flat shiny pancakes coming out of this shop.
The good news is they cost the same as most other dry cleaners. Click here for their pricelist.
Nice to know: Return their hangers to them and they’ll donate 5c to the Singapore-based charity against trafficking, River Kids. All plastic wrappers used are biodegradable.
They offer island-wide delivery for orders $40 and over. There are five outlets in Singapore, including Nassim and Club Street.
I love them too! I sent them my “mother of the bride” dress (complete with sequins) and they did a super job, and even mended a small hole. Their prices were in fact cheaper than a few other places.
Oh I use them already but didn’t know all this! Thanks for another fab Post CMG! Xoxo BBG
