I love receiving a proper, heavy invitation in the post. It gets the party you haven’t even gone to yet off to a very good start. But where can you find a place that produces engraved, weighty invites that, whilst never cheap, are marginally better value than what’s on offer here?
There’s Elephant & Coral in Wheelock Place of course and a sudden slew of individual letter press companies such as Paper Tigress and The Fingersmith Letterpress to name but a few but they don’t produce what it is I am after. I want to send out some super trad invitations that you could doff someone over the head with.
Smythsons of Bond Street do it so well but I am looking for somewhere where my pennies will stretch a bit further than the most obvious, and most expensive, English option.
Piccolo Press to the rescue. A family run business that is based in Narin near Inverness in Scotland, their regular clients include The House of Lords, The National Trust, The V&A and…me (to name but a few).
Their designs as modern or as traditional as you want.
In my case it’s Edinburgh Copperplate all the way plus thermographically raised text vs engraved letters (which is cheaper and no one can really tell the difference unless they are a printing geek, in which case they probably aren’t coming to my party).
Piccolo’s paper weights are seriously heavy (600gsm is just for starters) and what’s even better, they will ship it all to you in Singapore. Printing takes around 10 days, so order in plenty of time. They are great for really good quality writing paper too.

Looking forward to some head doffing 🙂
More great tips!!! Well now that you’ve put it like that I feel like I should frame my upcoming Invite lol! Xoxo BBG
