Poppy is our border terrier who arrived in our lives in August, looking neat, tidy and really rather respectable
Since I have been away for ages and hopelessly silent on the blog front (mainly because of the sheer volume of cheese I consumed whilst away in France; eating seemed to occupy alot of my time) I thought I’d start 2014 with an ultra topical foodie post, what with Chinese New Year being just around the corner.
Pineapple tarts.
For my UK based readers, pineapple tarts are the CNY equivalent to mince pies at Christmas, except that everyone likes them. Alot. And like mince pies, the best ones are always homemade.
Who’d have thought that the traditional technique for making one of the culinary cornerstones to Chinese New Year celebrations would be brought to you by an angmoh charboh (read English girl)? I am seriously thrilled that it is, even if I can only lay claim to the recipe by marriage.

Oh…and PS: New Year’s resolutions? I do have just the one: not to lie to myself about making certain lifestyle changes that I know, in my heart of hearts, don’t stand a chance of working. Daily yoga will just have to keep for yet another year, weekly runs too for that matter.

In between unpacking and repacking and scoffing a bit of turk, washed down with copious amounts of red wine, I have had just enough time to develop a spot of blog envy. I have fallen in love with whatever it is that Peony Lim (A Proper Blogger) does so brilliantly.
To distill what has now become her business in a few trite sentences, she wears her own immaculate wardrobe really rather well – it helps enormously that she owns several birkins in her own right – juxtaposed with a bunch of clever high street finds, all beautifully photographed. She also has an online shop.
The photos on my blog are mere snaps by comparison. In fact, it’s not unfair to say that they are snaps, full stop.
I am lucky in not suffering too badly from jetlag, but having flown to London from Singapore for a few days before heading on to New York for a few more, then doing the whole thing in reverse with a day in Singapore to have a complete re-pack before heading off to Thailand (what sort of idiot takes all their holidays in one go?), I do sometimes get that feeling at night, just before my head hits the pillow, that I won’t be able to sleep.
