I do sometimes, very occasionally, miss living in England. It’s only fleeting…and often triggered by the most ridiculous things: not being able to drink earl grey tea in front of a roaring log fire or go for a long blustery walk in my wellies (bright pink ones actually, if you’re asking).*
I blame my discovery of a Hunter welly & FitFlop sale, that’s happening today, for my current bout of nostalgia. I just wish wellies out here were something other than the yellow, one-size-fits-all variety worn by constructions workers.
New Yorkers dig them the most and put us Brits to shame; the pavements all across town, from SoHo to Fifth, are packed with people wearing long ones, short ones, ones with heels or wedges, laces, buckles or buttons that all come out at the slightest spattering of rain.
Head down to SJI International today to scoop up factory seconds and sample stock for both Hunters and FitFlops. Fifty percent of all proceeds raised will go to charity. (I can’t make FitFlops work for me, mine have rather a nasty habit of enlarging so that they stop being wearable; I’ll be making a beeline for the wellies in the hope that they do, one day, catch on in Singapore. If that day never comes, at least I can wear them when I’m next visiting Blighty.)
Hunter Wellies & FitFlops Sale TODAY ONLY at SJI International High School Hall (next to the Chapel), 490 Thomson Road, Singapore 298191
Friday 21st September, 8am-4:30pm; payment is by cash or cheque
*When I go back to the UK this christmas I will be sick of all these things by about day three.
