Spray – and Pray – Tan

By Changmoh • Wednesday, 31 October 2012 • Beauty

The only thing worse than a bad haircut is a bad spray/fake tan. It may be slightly less permanent, but leaving the salon a drastically different and more orangey hue than you were to start with is not a good look.

Letitia is essential to the whole spray tan operation at Sylvia’s Secrets which is the best place I’ve found so far for removing my ghostly white glow every now and again.  If you can’t have her, don’t do it.  She really understands the ‘orangutan fear’ (i.e. too orange) and is not heavy handed in the slightest; do tell her in advance that you don’t want it too dark (unless of course you do, in which case anyone can spray you).  There are 3 mixes of tan: 8%, 10% and 12% – if you want subtle glow, 8% is the one to go for.

It’s a massive bore but for it to work and last any length of time, you really have to exfoliate at home before coming as well as wear loose-ish, dark clothing. Essentially it’s light enough upon application to go out in and look normal – in fact you have a heavenly glow – and after 8 hours will darken slightly…making all the strange poses you had to make whilst wearing a paper g-string actually seem worth it.

Sylvia’s also has a branch on Turf Club Road.  Letitia only works at the King’s Arcade one though.

Thank you Jamie. For anyone that comes across Jamie’s comment…this is a contact of hers who she recommends for at-home self tanning. It’s not of the spray variety but she charges just $60.

The Chinese Angmoh
Why the strange name? Changmoh is an amalgamation of the words Chinese & 'Angmoh' (local speak for Caucasian should you be reading this in a country other than SG) // I'm an English girl living in Singapore and love the local way of life so much that I actually think I’m half Chinese. Maybe even three-quarters // Freelancer writer, author and editor ... you read it here first.
