I was stuck for yet another weekend lunch this Saturday, having failed on the supermarket shopping front and sick of the thought of yet another Crystal Jade at Holland V dim sum lunch (as we’ve eaten here more than the food deserves).
Ramen to the rescue, in the form Yoshimaru Ramen Bar. It’s a find and just around the corner from Crystal Jade (opposite Parisilk). They make all their own noodles on site, the runny boiled eggs are divine and the pork broth has just the right amount of saltiness. There are two Singapore outlets and dozens of Japanese ones, so you feel as though you are getting the real deal, as to be as large as they purport to be in Japan, they must be doing something right.
They have really nice touches like providing you with your own small pestle and mortar to grind your toasted sesame seeds in (tip ’em on top of your ramen when it comes). Slurpingly good, a basic bowl of ramen, which is what I had, will cost you the princely sum of $11. Low blood sugar row with four year old child averted and a healthy-ish start to the afternoon. (They also do a cute kids meal for $10 which includes an ice-cream and a toy car). Good place for Holland Village bargain noshing.
