Flying the Flag

By Changmoh • Wednesday, 8 August 2012 • House & Home

It’s National Day tomorrow, Singapore’s 47th birthday.  Being a Changmoh – Chinese Angmoh –  I have of course hung a flag up on my gate. Have you?

Strangely, they are surprisingly hard to buy. I trawled my local wet market at Ghim Moh…no luck, Seven Eleven…also a fail. I asked endless people where I should go to get lucky, not realising until now that most of the flags you see displayed on HDB estate balconies haven’t been bought but have been given by the government.

Well I was out of town on flag giving day. So after many a straw poll, to Popular Bookstore it was (also great for buying good value stationary, books, pens etc. I love it in there).

    The Chinese Angmoh
Why the strange name? Changmoh is an amalgamation of the words Chinese & 'Angmoh' (local speak for Caucasian should you be reading this in a country other than SG) // I'm an English girl living in Singapore and love the local way of life so much that I actually think I’m half Chinese. Maybe even three-quarters // Freelancer writer, author and editor ... you read it here first.
